Chilean Astronomer

I am a professional astronomer at the California Institute of Technology specializing in observational cosmology. Specifically, I build state-of-the-art cameras and telescopes and deploy them to rather extreme places, such as the Atacama Plateau in Chile (16500 ft elevation) and the geographic south pole. These instruments are used to study the beginning of the universe, dark energy, and the first galaxies. I am funded by both NASA and the National Science Foundation. The conditions where I conduct my research are harsh by any standard. Standard issue for me at the South Pole are Arborwear pants as I find them more comfortable and durable. In the attached image (taken last Autumn in Chile at 16000 ft) I am wearing a pair of Flannel Lined Originals.
